" 5 Stars ***** I am very impressed how professional and knowledgeable the CPG team is. Of the two coaches that I worked with, they did not hesitate to refer to the other one if they did not have the answers I was seeking. My resume is totally awesome - it even impressed my civilian coach! The coaches were extremely pleasant and professional, but also personable. I would absolutely recommend Career Pro Services - I feel without the help of your coaches, I would be clueless and lost in mounts of government paperwork. "

Resumix Resumes

USAJOBS Application System Replaced Resumix

The Department of Defense is now using USAJOBS for all branches of the military to advertise open positions, accept applications, and evaluate candidates’ qualifications and eligibility. While the Resumix online application system was automated based on keywords, Human Resources (HR) specialists read resumes submitted to USAJOBS.

However, keywords are still important to the USAJOBS system. HR specialists will look for particular keywords when reviewing applications. The main difference is that USAJOBS doesn’t use a keyword search to identify the best-qualified candidates. This means you can still be considered for a position, even if you don’t have particular keywords listed in your application.

Compared to Resumix, USAJOBS offers:

  • Larger resume storage... Resumix only allowed one resume to be stored in the system at one time. USAJOBS, on the other hand, allows you to save up to five resumes in the USAJOBS Resume Builder. Each can feature different keywords and emphasis.
  • More detailed vacancy announcements... Open position announcements in USAJOBS are now specific to a particular position. They include longer descriptions for job duties, skills and abilities, as well as knowledge and specialized experience.
  • Improved consideration based on skills and experience (not keywords)... While Resumix relied on keywords to determine the first cut of job applications, USAJOBS bases the first cut on questionnaire scores.
  • Longer resumes... The preferred resume length on USAJOBS is four to five pages. You can write up to 5,000 characters (including spaces) for each work experience block.

Tips for Applying to Federal Jobs Using USAJOBS

If you’re applying for a federal job with USAJOBS, make sure you:

  • Plan for more time... USAJOBS features a self-assessment questionnaire that could be up to 60 questions.
  • Highlight your skills, experience, and qualifications on the questionnaire... USAJOBS takes your resume score and adds it to your questionnaire score. Based on the total, you will be ranked as Minimally Qualified, Qualified, or Best Qualified. Make sure you effectively highlight yourself in the questionnaire section.
  • Write for human readability... Use small paragraphs to break up your text. Focus on specific skills with accomplishments based on the job description.
  • Include a cover letter... Upload your cover letter for each position in the document upload section.
